Colorado law license of former Trump campaign legal adviser Jenna Ellis suspended for 3 years

Legal Adviser to Trump Barred from Practicing Law in Colorado for Three Years

Jenna Ellis, a former legal adviser to Donald Trump during the 2020 election, has been barred from practicing law in the state of Colorado for three years. This decision comes as a result of an agreement reached with state legal regulators, following her indictment in Fulton County, Georgia, for her alleged role in a scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state.

The disciplinary proceedings against Ellis stemmed from her involvement in spreading baseless claims about the integrity of the 2020 election while serving as a legal adviser to Trump and his campaign. In October, Ellis pleaded guilty to a felony charge of aiding and abetting false statements and writing in violation of Georgia law, connected to false statements made by Trump’s lawyers before a Georgia Senate subcommittee.

In a letter as part of the stipulation with Colorado’s Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel, Ellis expressed deep remorse for her actions and admitted to being overly zealous in promoting false claims about the election. She acknowledged the harm caused by spreading misinformation and accepted the three-year suspension of her law license in Colorado.

Ellis emphasized the importance of election integrity and the need for the public to have faith in the electoral system. She recognized the damage done to democracy by the spread of false claims and expressed regret for her involvement in perpetuating misinformation.

The agreement reached with state regulators highlights the consequences of misconduct by legal professionals and serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding ethical standards in the practice of law. Ellis’ suspension serves as a cautionary tale for those who may be tempted to engage in unethical behavior in the pursuit of political goals.
