Exclusive Complaint Filed Against Trump Campaign for Concealing Legal Fees: FEC Investigation Requested
The Trump campaign is facing allegations of potentially violating federal law by concealing who is being paid for much of the former president’s legal work. A complaint filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) by the Campaign Legal Center (CLC) claims that the campaign and related political committees reimbursed compliance firm Red Curve Solutions $7.2 million for legal fees and expenses, despite the fact that Red Curve does not appear to offer legal services.
The arrangement between the Trump campaign and Red Curve has raised concerns about transparency and compliance with FEC rules. The complaint alleges that the campaign violated federal law by obscuring the true recipients of a significant portion of Trump’s legal bills and potentially making corporate political contributions through Red Curve, a limited liability corporation.
Saurav Ghosh, director of federal reform at CLC, emphasized the importance of transparency in campaign spending, stating that voters have a right to know how Trump-affiliated committees are using their funds, especially when significant amounts are being spent on legal expenses.
The FEC is being urged to investigate the payments immediately, as the arrangement between the Trump campaign and Red Curve is ongoing. The Trump campaign and Red Curve have been contacted for comment on the allegations.
In addition to the legal fees issue, Mr. Trump is currently facing multiple criminal cases, including charges related to falsifying business records, election interference, retaining classified documents, and civil fraud. Despite these legal challenges, Trump has posted bonds to prevent the seizure of his assets while appealing court decisions in some cases.
