George Alagiah Leaves £49,000 to Wife and Family in Will
The late BBC newsreader George Alagiah, who sadly passed away last year at the age of 67 after a ten-year battle with bowel cancer, left a modest £49,000 to his wife and family in his will. The former News at Six presenter had £49,387 to his name at the time of his passing, according to his will.
George’s will stipulates that the money is to be given to his widow Frances Alagiah, who was married to him for an impressive 39 years. The couple shares two sons, Adam and Matthew. In the event that Frances predeceases him, George’s sister Miriam Christine Denington would become the guardian of his children.
The will also lists George’s four sisters and sister-in-law as his trustees, who are to have five equal shares of his estates. He expressed his wish for his body to be cremated and granted his trustees broad investment powers and the authority to manage his estate’s assets with discretion.
Specific instructions regarding insurance payouts and the upkeep and improvement of his property were also outlined in the will. George encouraged his trustees to seek professional help if necessary.
The will concludes with the confirmation of its legal standing, stating that it was proved and registered before the High Court of Justice. The administration of George’s estate was granted to Frances Alagiah, with the gross value of the estate amounting to £49,387.00.
Despite his successful career at the BBC, where he earned between £335,000 and £399,999, George Alagiah chose to leave a modest sum to his loved ones in his will, highlighting his commitment to his family even in his final days.
