Introducing C2LI: A New Social Enterprise Spin-Out Company from the University of Strathclyde
The University of Strathclyde has launched a new social enterprise spin-out company, C2LI (Climate Change Legal Initiative), aimed at helping organizations navigate and comply with climate change-related laws. The company has created the Climate Change Litigation Knowledge Hub, an open-access online platform that translates complex climate change litigation cases into easy-to-understand summaries.
Led by Dr. Kate McKenzie, Dr. Francesco Sindico, and Amelia Burnette from the University’s School of Law, C2LI is a community interest company that reinvests all profits back into supporting its social and environmental vision. The team behind C2LI aims to provide expertise to organizations looking to understand and comply with climate change laws, reducing their insurance risk and taking climate-positive actions.
The Knowledge Hub currently covers 30 countries with the help of a global network of legal experts, but the team plans to expand to 50 countries this year and achieve global coverage within five years. Their focus is on countries that may have legal or political barriers to climate litigation cases.
Dr. McKenzie emphasized the importance of staying on top of climate change law for businesses operating in today’s world. She stated, “Climate change is impacting every area of life, and every area of law, and we are in a critical decade to take decisive action. The law is a powerful tool to help us keep global warming down.”
With the launch of C2LI and the Climate Change Litigation Knowledge Hub, organizations now have a valuable resource to navigate the complex landscape of climate change laws and ensure compliance with regulations designed to protect the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
