Mass Exodus from Axiom Ince Continues: Mezzle Hires Former Managing Partner and Team
The turmoil at Axiom Ince continues as the firm faces asset freezes and a mass exodus of key staff members. The latest blow came as international firm Mezzle announced the hiring of Agnes Gay, former head of property at Axiom Ince, along with her entire team of six.
This move is seen as the biggest single exit from Axiom Ince since three directors were suspended by regulators last month. The firm’s owner, Pragnesh Modhwadia, was recently hit with a £64m freezing order after it was revealed that he used client money to acquire struggling firms and invest in multiple properties.
Despite the ongoing uncertainty, Axiom Ince is still operating with the approval of the Solicitors Regulation Authority. However, some staff members are seeking opportunities elsewhere. Mezzle has acted swiftly to onboard Gay and her team, aiming to minimize any disruption for clients.
In addition to Mezzle’s recruitment, four members of the Axiom Ince team have joined RWK Goodman in London. This includes Marta Mendiondo as head of immigration, Sudipta Dey as an associate, Martin Pratt as a partner specializing in employment law, and Holly Freuchen as a senior associate.
RPC, another international firm, also announced a new partner in its London corporate practice, James Channo, who previously held a similar role at Axiom Ince. The SRA has emphasized strict rules regarding the use of client money, with Modhwadia stating his intention to defend against any claims.
As the situation at Axiom Ince unfolds, the legal community is closely watching the developments and the impact on both the firm and its former employees.
