US Pop Duo Faces Legal Dispute Over Ownership of Company
US pop duo Hall & Oates have officially called it quits after an ongoing legal dispute regarding John Oates’ alleged attempt to sell his half of their jointly owned company, Whole Oats Enterprises. In an interview with Variety magazine, Daryl Hall expressed his surprise at the situation, stating, “Difficulties can be made from things that aren’t difficult, and then it goes to a place where it can never come back from.”
The duo, known for hits such as Rich Girl and Maneater, had not had a creative relationship for over 25 years, according to Hall. Last year, a judge ruled in Hall’s favor, temporarily blocking Oates from selling his share of the joint venture without his permission.
Since the split, Hall has teamed up with British star Dave Stewart on his upcoming solo album, emphasizing their strong partnership. Hall dismissed speculation that some of the album’s tracks were about Oates, stating they were unrelated.
The news of the duo’s breakup marks the end of an era for Hall & Oates fans, who have enjoyed their music since the 1970s. A representative for Oates has been contacted for comment on the situation.
