Ex-Tory MP Andrew Bridgen may withdraw legal action against Matt Hancock if apology is issued
Ex-Tory MP Andrew Bridgen Threatens Legal Action Against Matt Hancock
Former Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen has made headlines this week after announcing his intention to sue former Health Secretary Matt Hancock over remarks made in response to Bridgen’s controversial comments regarding Covid-19 vaccines.
Bridgen, who was previously stripped of the Tory whip for appearing to compare Covid-19 vaccines to the Holocaust, revealed on Thursday that he had received a legal letter before action from the Bad Law Team on his behalf regarding defamation.
In an interview with GB News, Bridgen stated that he would be willing to drop the legal action if Hancock issued an apology for his comments. He emphasized that the decision was now in Hancock’s hands and that he was open to resolving the matter amicably.
The legal action is being supported by the Reclaim Party and the Bad Law Project, with Bridgen maintaining that he is not antisemitic and defending his language regarding vaccine safety.
Hancock, however, has stood by his comments and refused to back down. A spokesperson for Hancock stated that the remarks were not libellous and urged Bridgen to apologize for the harm caused by his statements.
The ongoing dispute between Bridgen and Hancock highlights the tensions within the Conservative Party and the broader political landscape. As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on whether a resolution can be reached or if the matter will escalate further in the courts.
