Bigi, Michael Jackson’s Son, Believes Estate Should Not Cover Grandmother’s Legal Fees in $600 Million Catalog Dispute

Bigi Jackson Takes Grandmother Katherine to Court Over Catalog Deal Objections

In a surprising turn of events, Michael Jackson’s youngest child, Bigi Jackson, has taken his grandmother, Katherine Jackson, to court over her objections to a catalog deal involving the late pop singer’s estate. Bigi, formerly known as Blanket, argues that Katherine’s ongoing legal battle against the estate’s executors is a “waste” of time and resources.

Court filings obtained by PEOPLE reveal that Bigi, 22, is requesting that the estate not be used to fund Katherine’s appeal against co-executors John Branca and John McClain. The dispute stems from an undisclosed transaction, which is believed to be the Jackson estate’s $600 million catalog sale to Sony.

Initially, both Bigi and Katherine were against the proposed deal, but after a judge ruled in favor of moving forward with the transaction, Blanket and his siblings accepted the decision. However, Katherine filed an appeal, prompting Bigi to challenge her request for the estate to cover her legal fees.

Bigi’s lawyers argue that a reversal on appeal is unlikely and that Katherine’s decision to continue the legal battle is not in the best interest of the heirs. While Bigi does not object to reasonable attorney fees for Katherine’s initial objection, he questions the necessity of the overall amount and requests the court to determine a fair and equitable sum.

The filing highlights the tension within the Jackson family over the handling of the estate and raises questions about the financial burden placed on the heirs. As the legal battle unfolds, it remains to be seen how the court will address the conflicting interests of Bigi and Katherine Jackson.
