Britney Spears and Father Jamie Spears Reach Settlement in Conservatorship Case
The long-standing legal battle between Britney Spears and her father Jamie Spears has finally come to an end with a settlement in the court conservatorship that controlled her life and financial decisions for nearly 14 years. The settlement, approved by a judge on Friday, means that the scheduled hearing on the issues, including a request from Jamie Spears for a broad ruling dismissing them, has been canceled.
Britney Spears was freed from the conservatorship in November 2021, after a public outcry and the #FreeBritney movement gained momentum following her emotional speeches to a judge. However, some issues remained unresolved, including final payments to the attorneys who operated the conservatorship and allegations of financial malfeasance by Jamie Spears.
The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but one filing stated that Jamie Spears had been “fully and finally discharged as Former Conservator of the Estate.” Britney’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, expressed that her wish for freedom is now truly complete, as she will no longer need to be involved in legal proceedings related to the conservatorship.
Jamie Spears’ attorney, Alex Weingarten, stated that the settlement was confidential at the insistence of Britney’s lawyer. He emphasized that Jamie has always done everything he can to protect his daughter and loves her very much.
In her memoir, “The Woman in Me,” Britney Spears had previously expressed her feelings about her father, stating that he had always been focused on money. Despite the end of the conservatorship, Britney’s personal life has seen ups and downs, including her marriage to longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari and subsequent divorce filing by Asghari.
While Britney has collaborated on music projects, she has recently stated that she will never return to the music industry, dispelling rumors of a new album. The settlement brings an end to a chapter in Britney Spears’ life that has been closely followed by fans and the public.
